What is rhizarthrosis?
Rhizarthrosis, also known as thumb arthritis, is the wearing down of the cartilage in the joint at the base of the thumb near the wrist (trapeziometacarpal joint). This irreversible condition causes pain and gradually reduces the ability to perform daily activities. In advanced cases, thumb deformation may occur.
Can a thumb splint be worn during the day?
The EPITACT® thumb splint for rhizarthrosis is specifically designed to provide relief during the night, periods of rest, and during inflammatory flare-ups. Wearing this type of semi-rigid orthosis serves to immobilize the joint; therefore, they are not compatible with daily activities. That's why EPITACT® has also created a flexible orthosis that provides relief during the day while preserving hand mobility.
How to choose the right size?
Using a tape measure, measure the circumference of your hand just at the base of the four fingers (do not include the thumb). Then, refer to the size guide accessible at the top of the page to determine the appropriate size.
