What is hallux valgus?
Hallux valgus is a deformation of the big toe. The toe inclines inward while the first metatarsal deviates outward. Gradually, the end of this bone, called the metatarsal head, protrudes on the side of the foot, forming a bony bump called a "bunion." Hallux valgus is an irreversible deformation; it cannot disappear over time.
How do I choose the right size?
The size selection for a silicone hallux valgus protector is based on your shoe size. Refer to the size guide accessible at the top of the page. If you are unsure between two sizes, opt for the smaller one.
When should I use the silicone hallux valgus protector?
The silicone hallux valgus protector can be used at all stages of the condition, but it is particularly recommended for advanced stages, when the joint at the base of the big toe is stiffened. The deformation can then be protected but cannot be mechanically corrected. For early to moderate stages, there are soft corrective orthoses that realign the big toe during walking or rigid corrective orthoses that limit the progression of hallux valgus at night.
